redONE Mobile Reinforces Commitment to Environmental Stewardship through Mangrove Planting and Beach Cleaning at Pulau Carey

Pulau Carey – redONE Mobile, Malaysia’s leading Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) has reinforced its commitment to environmental conservation by partnering with the Mah Meri Cultural Village (MMCV) for a day dedicated to coastal clean-up and mangrove planting at Pulau Carey.

The initiative aimed to restore and enhance the ecological integrity and biodiversity of the coastal area of the island while heightening awareness of the crucial role mangrove ecosystems play in environmental conservation and climate resilience. Volunteers participated in hands-on activities, including planting mangrove saplings and a beach clean-up, which are crucial to protect shorelines from erosion, enhancing water quality, and serving as significant carbon sinks to combat climate change.

This joint endeavour also celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Mah Meri tribe, one of the 19 indigenous tribes in Malaysia, which has long served as stewards of the unique coastal landscape. Volunteers took part in traditional activities of the tribe such as Leaf Origami, Lastik & blowpipe, Atap weaving, and a Woodcarving demonstration, showcasing the tribe’s artistry and craftsmanship. A traditional Mah Meri wedding ceremony served as a highlight, offering guests insights into the tribe’s distinctive culture.

redONE Mobile Chief Executive Officer, Ameen Amaendran said, “Our collaboration with MMCV underscores our commitment to creating lasting change by protecting our environment and supporting local communities. This program aligns with our core values of sustainability and giving back to the communities we serve. Together, we aim to leave a positive legacy for future generations.”

Diana Ross Diaman, MMCV representative commented, “This partnership with redONE Mobile is incredibly meaningful to our community. Mangroves are a symbol of resilience, just like the Mah Meri people. This program allows us to protect our coastal environment while sharing our cultural heritage with the wider community. It’s a step forward in preserving both our land and our traditions for future generations.”

The mangrove planting and beach cleaning efforts are part of a broader initiative by redONE Mobile to engage in environmental conservation and promote sustainability. The company also carried out its ‘Eco Roots Initiative’ at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) this year, where volunteers were equipped with the necessary skills to produce quality seedlings through soil preparation and planting, a step towards contributing to the restoration of Malaysia’s natural ecosystem.
